Safety Barrel Shape Screw-In Clasp

A screw clasp is fastened by screwing one end of the clasp into the other. 

The weakest point of the jewelry made with this type of clasp is where the clasp is fastened with the cord.  Under enough pressure, the necklace will break at this spot. There is no exact science as to the amount of pressure it takes before a necklace with this type of clasp will break apart, but studies have shown an average of 7 lbs of force. Leaving a child under the age of 3 unsupervised while wearing our jewelry is not advised.

Individualy Knotted

Each piece of jewelry which states it is individually knotted is done so by hand, not only for aesthetics but for a safety reason. This way, if the piece was to break at any point, only one bead would detach instead of the whole strand, which therefore reduces the choking risk. Infant jewelry (anything made for a child under 3 years of age) should always be individually knotted for these reasons.

A new legislation came into effect in February 2009 that mandates an age recommendation of 3 years or older due to small parts. This jewelry is not intended for children under 3 years old. If you do not see this mandate listed by other Baltic amber teething necklace retailers, they are in violation of US law. ALL teething necklaces MUST carry this mandate.

I realize this may seem confusing, for everywhere you look, you find products with small parts that are specifically made for young children. There are some exceptions, but jewelry has strict regulations. In the end, it is the right of a parent to decide what is best for their child.
